Scramble for HTTTopia
During a usually long see-you-and-good-bye conversation on the doorstep of a beautifull friend I found renewed interest in scrambling the internet back again. I started with this some time ago and I explained it in Dutch. The simple thing is to combine fascinating words with images and then look behind the images to see what is there to be found.
This is another way of discovering an unknown world. That’s what alway has my interest. Are there off the track ways to find things you would otherwise never have come across. One way of doing that is to look for unknown connections between words an images. It all has to do with translation.
This search has been done on the word “schorem”. The origin of this word is to be found in Hebrew, but it has become a well known Dutch word as well. In Dutch it means something like outcast. My friend, who happens to be from Isreal was quit shocked by the fact we use this word so lightheartedly. She told me in her language it is a very offensive word for black people and urged me never to use it again.
This final remark made the word “schorem” perfectly applicable for a project on political incorrect words. “Schorem” is in fact a political incorrect word with an offensive connotation of which the user normally is not aware. So I decided to put it on the Wall of insults and invite you to search for insults in you language to do the same.
And for the result on the scramble. Actually most of the images where what you would expect form a search on this word. Images of punks or vandals rioting on the streets. The one interesting image on the first page was a little cartoon. So this time there is not much behind the picture than the questions it evokes.
